Conor McGregor is no stranger to controversy.  His rise to popularity has not been without its share of mishaps and mistakes. Simply put, McGregor does not care what others think, which often leads him to saying and doing some pretty crazy things. Although there were several to pick from, here’s a list of five crazy things Connor has done.

Conor McGregor Takes José Aldo’s Belt!

Conor McGregor was preparing for the biggest fight of his life in 2015 at UFC 189, when he was set to challenge featherweight champion José Aldo for the belt. The two of them were fighting on a world tour, with the finale being in McGregor’s hometown of Dublin, Ireland.  The entire build up to the fight had seen Connor do everything in his power to get under José Aldo’s skin. And this event would see Conor step things up a notch.

Conor’s entrance to the press conference was met by thousands of noisy Irish fans. At one point during the press conference, Aldo proclaimed himself the king of Ireland, which didn’t sit too well with the Irish crowd. Connor responded by yelling, “You’re looking at the king of Dublin!”. He then proceeded to reach over and grab José Aldo’s belt, raising in the air, challenging although saying, “What are you gonna do?”.

The place was pandemonium with fans screaming in support of Conor.

Conor Throws Bottles!

McGregor’s made somewhat of the habit of showing up late to press conferences. UFC 202’s press conference was no exception, that McGregor kept his opponent Nate Diaz waiting for him to show up. Diaz, who already had plenty of animosity towards Conor after the first bout, took this as a sign of disrespect.

Once Conor arrived, Nate Diaz decided to pay McGregor in time, getting up and walking out of the press conference, flipping him off as he walked away. McGregor fired back with some words of his own, telling him to “Get the f**k out of here!”. Diaz and his group responded by chucking a bottle at Conor, which prompted Connor to throw a few bottles of his own. And before you knew it the two were involved in a back-and-forth bottle throwing match.

This unpleasant incident ended up costing McGregor a whopping $150,000

McGregor gets in trouble with an Irish Cartel Mob

In 2017, it was reported that a well-known Irish celebrity had punched a 50 year old man following an argument at “The Black Forge Inn” in Ireland. The man on the receiving end of the punch was believed to be an associate of an Irish cartel mob. Although the reports never directly named McGregor as the person involved, McGregor took to Instagram shortly after posting a short clip of him in a hoodie captioned “The celebrity”, giving a nod to the rumors that he was the celebrity referenced in reports.

It was also reported that the cartel demanded a $900,000 fee in damages from the Irish sports star.

On November 30th, in an unrelated incident McGregor appeared in court after Judge orders he appeared to face a speeding charge. In a video following the court hearing, Connor dismissed the claims as, “All bollocks!” Stepping in his BMW he responded to questions of the incident with, “Come and get me!”

Conor Vs. Referee

On November 10th 2017, Conor McGregor attended Bellator 187 in Belfast Ireland. The event had several of Connors Irish teammates fighting on the card. One of those teammates, Charlie Ward, ended up scoring a TKO victory over Josh Redman in the first round. Seconds after Charlie Ward stopped his opponent, rather than waiting for the door to be open to the cage, McGregor hopped over the fence and tackled Ward in celebration. Since McGregor was not a licensed cornerman, he was not allowed to be in the cage until the door was opened. The referee tried to separate Ward and McGregor, pushing McGregor away. Unfortunately this resulted in McGregor furiously running over to the referee, shoving him and screaming in.

Later that night McGregor also ended up slapping one of the commissioners who attempted to remove him from the cage. McGregor would later take to social media to apologize for the incident.

Conor’s Dolly Attack

Conner’s teammate and close friend, Artem Lobov, became involved in a viral altercation with lightweight fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov in April of 2018. The incident took place in a hotel in Brooklyn, after Artem Lobov posted a video insulting Khabib. Khabib could be seen confronting Artem Lobov and grabbing him behind the neck.

Conner responded days later, by bringing 20 to 30 of his friends to the Barclays center, where fighters were being loaded up by the transport buses. McGregor and his entourage attacked the bus Khabib was on with McGregor hurling a dolly through the bus window, screaming at Khabib to get out of the bus. The damage from the shattered window caused UFC fighters Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa to be withdrawn from their fights. Luckily Khabib escaped the attack unscathed. Shortly after, Connor was seen running out of the Barclays center and into a waiting SUV.
