“Pretty” Dangerous Wrestler, Vinesh – Indian Top Seed For The Olympics.
Vinesh Phogat (born on the 25th of August, 1994) is an Indian woman wrestler who comes from a wrestling family of India. Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari who won Commonwealth Games gold -medals are relatives of her.
Vinesh Phogat won the 53kg gold medal at the Poland Open in Warsaw, gaining valuable experience ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
Vinesh, 26, has now won three titles this season, including gold medals at the Matteo Pellicone tournament in March and the Asian Championship in April.
Considering these amazing achievements in the season she gained more points on the ranking table and ultimately became the number one in the rankings.
Vinesh will be the top-ranked woman in the 53 kg weight class for the Tokyo Olympics. The United World Wrestling (UWW) declared on Monday that Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat will be the top seed in the women’s 53kg weight category in the Tokyo Olympics.
Vinesh also made history by being the first Indian woman to win gold in both the Commonwealth and Asian Games. Phogat is the first Indian athlete to receive a Laureus World Sports Award.
Though she has been in outstanding form during this Olympic season winning four gold medals in as many contests, her Olympic hopes came to an end in Rio 2016 placing her 10th in that year due to an injury. Anyhow, many believe she will make up for her mistakes done at the 2016 Olympics this year.
With her arch-rival Mayu Mukaida of Japan (Japan is the hosting nation) seeded second, Phogat will try to make her way into the final for a possible gold medal showdown with the Japanese wrestling phenomenon.
